German doctor Klaus Martens developed this iconic “bouncing sole” boot after he injured his ankle in a skiing accident. They were first popular with – who would’ve guessed – housewives and pretty soon, factory workers and post office workers picked them up too.When British punk rockers and musicians began wearing these air-cushioned boots, that signaled the introduction of the Doc Martens brand as highly fashionable and covetable footwear to the rest of the world.
