Pikolinos is a Spanish footwear brand with a conscience: along with the other companies in Grupos Pikolinos, their ultimate goal is “to provide more opportunities, help, and cooperation through social, cultural, sport and development projects.”

Sounds like a lot for a shoemaker, but in their 25 years of existence, they have actually been inching closer and closer towards achieving that goal. For one, Pikolinos employs environment-friendly practices in their manufacturing processes and administration operations. They were also one of the first companies to get the ISO 9001 and ISO 4001 certifications (Quality and Environmental Management Systems). And through their Juan Peran Foundation, they collaborate with other organizations such as UNICEF and help communities on both a local and an international level.

That brief background on Pikolinos is necessary to be able to fully understand the design philosophy behind their La Palma Tall Boot:

This boot is part of Pikolinos’ winter 2009 collection. Just by taking one look at it, you can immediately sense that this boot was made with quality, originality, and environment protection in mind.

The leather used is clearly top notch; they were treated with casein, a milk protein which is absorbed by the pores in the leather and gives it a nice sheen. The burnished design is part of Pikolinos’ belief in giving their products their own unique look and personality. Lastly, this boot has the “sewn to sole” feature – a Pikolinos production method which makes the sole so flexible that it molds to the wearer’s foot after some time.

Pikolinos shoes always have a handcrafted vibe to them. Even the plaid fabric they chose for this boot’s inner lining has an all-natural, earthy look:
