How to Wear Furry Boots Like the Koolaburra Melrose Boot

January 8, 2010 • By Erika

Would you wear overly furry boots like the Koolaburra Melrose Boot?:

UGG Australia came out with their version, the UGG Fluff Momma Boots, about 6-7 years ago and it did enjoy a following from UGG fans including some Hollywood celebrities. We didn’t see much of furry boots after that. Not until Marc Jacobs recently sent it down the runway for his 2009 Fall RTW collection:

Now we’re beginning to see more and more of these overly furry boots!

Boots like the Koolaburra Melrose Boot are serious attention grabbers. Sure they’re boots that are suitable for a mountain chalet or a snowy ski lodge, but even if you wear them in those places, there’s no way you can have them on without getting some (wanted or unwanted) attention.

So how do you wear overly furry boots? First off, you need lots of confidence. Second, check out our compilation of no-no ensembles, on-the-fence looks, and must-do outfits to get an idea of how and how NOT to wear furry boots:

Just Say No to Fur

Pete Wentz, Nicolette Sheridan,  Mariah Carey, and Molly Sims

Sorry Pete Wentz, furry boots on men is still not generally accepted yet, especially if you’re just walking through downtown LA. Nicolette Sheridan’s grey gym sweats don’t really go together with cold-weather fighting furry boots and neither do Mariah’s much too tight and much too small clothing. And although Molly Sims is just holding that boot, it would be wise to just say no to pink fur (although oddly, it does look good on some people).

Not Quite Sure…

Victoria Beckham, Solange Knowles, and Brandy

Victoria Beckham looks fabulous in her Dior furry boots (which she wore on a ski trip to the French Alps), but we get the feeling that only she can get away with this look. So that kind of puts her outfit on the fence for us. Solange Knowles has the legs and the body to pull off that cute dress, but it’s the hair-like quality of her ankle boots that’s throwing everything off. Same goes for Brandy – even though the proportions are all right from the knees up, those furry boots make everything look off-balance.

Where do We Sign Up for It?

Kate Moss, Chictopia user BBandHH, Street style walker, and a look from the A.F. Vandevorst 2005 A/W collection

Can Kate Moss do any wrong? Her rock-inspired outfit still manages to look good with those grey furry boots. Chictopia user BBandHH knows to keep everything sleek and form-fitting when wearing  furry boots, and in contrast, Livejournal user Ot-kutur snapped this picture of a woman who still looks amazing in a billowy capelet, black leggings, and Jimmy Choo fur boots. A similar look from the A.F. Vandevorst 2005 A/W collection shows that everything else should be simple and should let the furry boots do all the talking (and walking).

The Koolaburra Melrose Boot are $399.00. Purchase them through BarefootTess.com.
