Wendy Toth over at Shoetube.tv Blog wrote a rave review about these buckled riding boots from Chinese Laundry:
She said she was able to shop for presents, drive 2 hours to Philly, attend her grandmother’s 80th birthday, eat at a posh restaurant, AND get home in time for another friend’s 30th birthday party all while wearing these boots. That’s zero outfit and footwear changes, even though she originally did want to wear a pair of pumps for her grandmother’s birthday.
She got some serious mileage out of those boots to say the least – that’s like the boot’s entire worth used up in one day!
Of course, I had to look up these multi-tasking Chinese Laundry Newbie boots and take a closer look for myself:
Chinese Laundry Newbie sole and back view
Although there weren’t any pictures of the boots styled in a different way, that notch at the back means that the top part can be folded down. So these knee-high boots can be converted into mid-calf boots, and as some of the customer reviews said, these boots will slouch after wear. So you get 3 looks in 1 boot: knee-high, mid-calf, and slouch. Now I see why Wendy Toth call these Chinese Laundry Newbies full support double-duty boots.
The downside to these otherwise amazing boots is more than a few customers claim that the sole/heel tends to slip a lot. That can easily be fixed by a quick resole, although you will lose the Chinese Laundry sole pattern – an insignificant detail if it means upping the grip on these boots and making them safer for the wearer.
Overall a great boot recommendation! But I am wondering – what did Wendy wear with these boots on that super busy day? She had to shop, drive, meet her grandma, fine dine, AND attend a birthday party in it. What she wore had got to be a really versatile outfit too.
Wendy said she wore a poufy party skirt with the Chinese Laundry Newbies and these are my outfit guesses:

WWDW – What did Wendy wear?
