Karl Lagerfeld Imports Glaciers from Sweden for the Chanel Fall 2010 Fashion Show

March 18, 2010 • By Erika

There are only two ways to look at this piece of news: either you revel in the extreme extravagance of fashion, or you are totally repelled by how wasteful fashion is especially in the midst of a global economic crisis.

Karl Lagerfeld made a headline-making move when he decided to import a 265-ton arctic glacier from Sweden all the way to Paris just for the Chanel Fall 2010 RTW fashion show:

It took 35 sculptors and 6 days to sculpt the originally 28-foot iceberg. The entire venue was kept at subzero temperatures the whole time and was maintained even for the fashion show itself.

So much for just a little bit of drama.

I think the clothes themselves were dramatic enough, especially when you’ve got full Yeti-like clothes such as these:

As for the footwear, Karl Largefeld stuck with the Bigfoot theme and went all out on these boots with the fur:

Want to place bets on who’ll be the first celeb to wear these overly furry Chanel boots when fall comes? In the meantime, check out these super furry boots that you can buy now and maybe save for a time when you’re anywhere near a glacier too:

Even though they’re really pink, I have to say that these boots look really comfy. Also comes in turquoise color.
