Trend Alert: Is the Future of Fashion in Metallic?

January 11, 2013 • By Robert

While the temperatures continue to hover around the freezing mark, our bodies tend to crave thick, comfy garments to help keep us warm. However, with the arrival of a new year, sartorially inclined individuals look ahead to the spring and summer months to catch a glimpse of what’s new and upcoming.

One of the most talked about trends, which many believe will be one of the most popular in 2013, is the use of metallic in clothing. During the spring/summer 2013 fashion previews, design house heavyweights Burberry Prorsum and Versace both showcased metallic finishes in many of their pieces — from blazers, trousers, and shirts to ties and bags.

While I do consider many of the items to be avante garde and slightly over the top, there are pieces that I absolutely love and would most definitely add to my wardrobe. Admittingly, I may not be ready to sport a full-on metallic suit or trench coat; I am, however, a fan of metallic-trimmed pieces, such as button-downs, shoes, bags, and ties. It’s something fresh that I can utilize to play up my current wardrobe without having to look completely space-like.

Is the look for everybody? Not at all! However, the futuristic appeal of the metallic may draw the curiosity of enough people to make it stick and be included in future collections.
