The shafts on these cowboy boots have been turned down for a more modern style and were then wrapped with leather belts, buckles, fabrics, necklaces, coins, rings, studs, tassels and all manners of embellishments to create that charming yet cool mismatched look. And when they say that “each boot is different” they really mean it — not only are the boots and the embellishments found vintage, but each boot’s design has its own unique variations and was applied by hand.

But not everyone has the time, skills or resources to do that so these boots are understandably selling out and selling out fast. If you find yourself even just liking a pair, better buy them right away because someone will surely snatch these up quick. We knew that those Cobra Societys were going to be “It” boots. The fact that they already had a knockoff just about a month after their release shows just how hot and in demand they are!

Steve Madden was first to come out with a low-cost version of the Cobra Society Otto boots, this ‘Tolteca’ boot with higher stacked heel, an added buckled harness strap and a slouched-down style:

Now we’re seeing distressed leather boots with patterned woven blanket inserts all over the place. Freebird by Steven recently came out with this ‘Caballero’ boot that comes closest to the look of the original Cobra Society Otto boots:

But not all woven blanket and leather boots out there are trying to copy the Cobra Societys. Frye only used their old ‘Shirley’ boot style for this newest trend but the effect is totally new and fresh while still retaining its vintage appeal:

We also spotted the trend on this Bed Stu ‘Hacienda’ boot. Instead of a cowboy boot, Bed Stu used a lace-up boot and also used the woven blanket fabric panels on other places other than the shaft:

Because I waited so long, they have now been put on sale. I guess it’s a good thing that I waited so long then!

The first pair I’d like to put in the spotlight is this ‘Unity’ stitched wedge bootie from Restricted:

For some reason, I was on a goth style kick during the holidays. The Christmas season is a strange time to be digging the darker side of things, but the stitched up, sewn together look of these booties really appealed to me (and so did the similarly stitch-detailed Alexander Mcqueen horn heel t-strap pumps).

I love how the stitches circle along the sides of the booties. Even more that the stitches run the entire length of the front and the back of the booties. The double buckled straps only add to its “Frankenstein-held-down-on-a-gurney” look. These details look even more macabre on the brown and black leather version of these booties — you can go to Amazon to check out their fashionably frightful appearance.

This second boot, the ‘Ashbury’, is in the exact same style of the ‘Unity’ but manages to look completely different:

Isn’t it amazing how a bit of patched up style turns this bootie from scary to rustic? The different-colored suede and the zigzag stitches only remind me of a patchwork quilt, completely erasing any likeliness to goth. It is the same style boot though, down to the double buckled straps and the 1 1/2″ platform and the 4 1/2″ wedge heel.

Both boots have got their own appeal but which one calls to you more — the ‘Unity’ or the ‘Ashbury’?

These boots are just amazing. And you can’t really expect anything less as they’re from amazing shoe maker Azzedine Alaia. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s boots are the Alaia stud and zip suede ankle boots below. Rosie has the blue suede version but we think these black ones are even more stunning:

Featuring rows of silver zippers and flat diamond-shaped studs, these boots have an approximately 5 1/2″ heel and a 1/2″ platform. The curved heel on these babies are reminiscent of the “It” shoe of the season, the Miu Miu glitter ankle boots. Just reminiscent of course — these Alaias clearly have their own personality and their very own unique look.
