The Zappos sister website and online discount store 6pm.com just served us a double whammy (but in a good way):

They’ve put both Frye and UGG Australia, two of the bestselling shoe brands anywhere, ON SALE at the same time!

Actually, this just might be real negative definition of a double whammy because now it presents us a dilemma. On which brand are we going to spend our money and which one is a better deal?

Frye has the bigger discount at up to 70% off but UGG Australia isn’t that far off with a 65% price slash.

Frye and UGG Australia are two brands that are hardly ever on sale so this seemingly ordinary deal at 6pm is very much worth blogging about. Even then, not all of the popular styles are included in this sale. But if you’re the type to not go for the usual designs, then this is a sale you should be looking at. Because how often do you come across original and authentic Frye and UGG boots that are just around $100 and under?

Ugg Boots with A (W)edge: Koolaburra Kristin Boots

Koolaburra is getting a bit of a reputation here on Boots 4 You. First they gave us the overly furry boots, then the furry summer sandals, and for this winter 2011, they’ve given us ugg boots with approximately 2.5″-high wedge heels:

Okay, so wedge heels on ugg boots aren’t really anything new or to get excited about. In fact, UGG Australia themselves came out with their own wedge ugg boots years ago. But something about this design from Koolaburra is throwing me off and I think I know what it is: they’ve kept the same rounded and sloped toe seen on regular ugg boots despite the addition of the wedge heel.

It’s like that high-heeled Jil Sander desert boot all over again. They just stuck a heel on these boots without altering the upper, toe and arch so the boot ends up looking like it’s going to pitch you forward. I actually don’t mind the wedge but now the proportions look all wrong. Also, the wedge is still made of the same crepe material, which probably means that it’s going to soak up even more water if you try to walk these in snow or rain.

Koolaburra also has these other wedge ugg boots which are much more stylized, so you kind of expect them to have some sort of heel or other:

These make the wedge heel look acceptable but I still can’t look past the stuck-on-heel appearance. Compare these boots with wedge ugg boots from other sheepskin boot brands to see what I mean.

Boots and Socks – Stuck Together?

I’ve always had a bone to pick with two separate pieces of clothes that are sewn together. Like, how hard is it to wear a vest after a shirt? Or a shirt over another shirt? And rolling up sleeves never presented any problems for anyone I know, so why do designers feel the need to sew sleeves that are permanently stuck to the elbows?

Okay, so the last isn’t really an example of clothes that are stuck together, but this one sure is – the Annabel sweater bootie from Luichiny:

Is it a sock? Is it a boot? Is it a mary jane shoe? No, it’s all of the above!

Why bother with putting on socks when you can just slip your feet into these babies? You can roll the socks down to turn them into ankle boots or pull them up the calf to turn them into full boots. Keep people wondering about exactly what type of shoes you have on!

Now for the hard part: Wouldn’t the socks get dirty eventually? So how are you supposed to wash these things? You can’t really just throw leather shoes into the washing machine.

The cable knit socks are lovely, but what if you want to change the color of your socks? Are they interchangeable at least? Or does Luichiny suggest that we buy all colors of the Annabel sweater booties?

So many unanswered questions.

If the whole point of adding socks to shoes was to keep them from scrunching down – and we’re already sewing clothes together anyways – then maybe sewing the top of the socks to them hem of shorts or skirts would be a better idea hmm?

Lacoste Bundle Boots Inject Some Color Into Winter

The Lacoste Bundle Boots

The Bundle Boots, first seen in Lacoste’s 2009 Autumn/Winter collection, were released last November - just in time to wear for fall and get ready for winter.

This rain boot mutation in ultra-bright fluorescent neon colors had fashion naysayers saying that they were only going to be another flash in the pan, but boy were they wrong: the black and the pink Lacoste Bundle Boots sold out in just under a month and Lacoste had to restock their shelves for the hungry Christmas shopping crowd.

Let’s take a closer look at the Lacoste Bundle Boots:

A sportswear brand like Lacoste won’t design a shoe just to be fashionable – it has to be functional too. So for these cold-weather boots, we’re looking at waterproof rubber uppers, non-skid sole patterns, quilted fabric lining, AND a padded footbed. These were definitely made for fall and beyond.

But of course, we’re talking about Lacoste here, the brand that turned stiff pique polo shirts into a trend. So even though the Bundle Boots could withstand harsh snow and ice weather conditions, they coudn’t be without some style: the rubber uppers are shiny patent, the two buttons for adjusting are made extra large for cute overload, and lest we forget, the ever-present alligator logos are prominently emblazoned on the heels.

The only design flaw that we have a gripe about on these boots is that if you do stand in the snow in these, will the wet and cold seep in through the seams around the ankles? But despite that, we still think the Lacoste Bundle Boots are a great way to inject some color into the harsh white winter that we are now experiencing.

We featured some sweater boots before, after Megan Fox was seen traipsing around in her UGG Classic Cardy Boots in grey. And like we said in that post, sweater boots are difficult to wear out of the house (unless maybe if you’re a celeb and people around you always tell you that you look good in everything that you wear).
