Looking for fashionable and affordable wide calf boots used to be like looking for the fountain of youth. It felt like they just didn’t exist!

But nowadays, thanks to a growing demand and a general acknowledgement that well, women do come in different sizes, we’re starting to see more and more choices of booth widths. Many shoe brands have expanded their inventory to include not only wide calf boots but also extra wide calf boots, with some companies even establishing themselves as wide width boot specialists.

What are these shoe brands? Fitzwell, Naturalizer, Ros Hommerson and Lumiani to name a few. UK-based shoe brand DUO is one such company that markets themselves as wide boot specialists and websites dedicated just to wide calf boots are quickly following suit.

Plenty of online retailers have also made looking for wide calf boots much easier; all you have to do is select the “wide” and “extra wide” categories and you’re all set to shop.

Suddenly, it feels like we have more wide calf boot options than we know what to do with. And because of this glut in supply, prices for wide calf boots have become very competitive, very reasonable and sometimes, even downright cheap.

So it was pretty easy for us to round up this list of a dozen wide calf boots that are all priced under $200. We could’ve even limited ourselves to under $100 because the choices were that plenty! But to show a variation in styles, we upped the price range to $200.

Halle Berry and Katherine Heigl Step Out in Strapped Down Boots

It must’ve been coincidence day last Tuesday (March 9) for Halle Berry and Katherine Heigl. The pictures of Halle and Katherine published that day showed that both celebs were out to have lunch with a female companion, were both carrying young children (daughter Nahla for Halle and her sister’s daughter for Katherine), and were both wearing a monochromatic color form head to toe (black for Halle, brown for Katherine).

It doesn’t stop there – Halle and Katherine were also wearing very similar pairs of mid-calf boots with multiple straps and buckles:

But even though Halle and Katherine are wearing practically the same pair of boots in these pictures, they still manage to pull off two very different looks. Halle is the sleek rocker in her black leggings, black oversized sunglasses, and black multibuckle boots, while Katherine goes for cozy and laidback in her long dark brown trench coat, blue jeans, and brown buckled suede boots.

The previously blond Katherine also chose to debut her new darker ‘do with this outfit, perhaps to show that she dyed her hair so dark, it matches with these clothes.

Tapestry Boots at the Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Shanghai Fashion Show

Did you know that Mademoiselle Chanel’s inspiration for the design of her bags was Chinese quilting? Coco Chanel’s now world-famous purses are all rooted in the French fashion designer’s love for Chinoiserie, Chinese art, and Chinese imagery.

So it was very fitting that Karl Lagerfeld chose Shanghai as the backdrop for the Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 collection. Actually, the city was not just in the background but its ultra-modern skyline, bustling roads, and metropolitan nightscape all played integral roles in achieving the overall visual and aural effect of the entire fashion show. In short, Shanghai was the center stage:

The collection of course included Chinese-inspired looks such as spins on the traditional cheongsam, thigh-high side slits, rich silks, and shaggy furs, all combined with Chanel’s trademark tweed and skirt suits. The color palette mostly consisted of dark grays and blacks – to match with Shanghai – with shocks of red, yellow, and gold in parts and places.

Color mostly came from the equally luxurious details that accompanied the garments. Get a load of the accessories, particularly these Mongolian-style tapestry and fabric boots:
