Stitched Up, Patched Up ‘Unity’ and ‘Ashbury’ Wedge Booties from Restricted

I’ve been meaning to write about these two booties for the longest time now but celebrity boot spots, holiday sales and the holidays themselves got in the way. Because I waited so long, they have now been put on sale. I guess it’s a good thing that I waited so long then!

The first pair I’d like to put in the spotlight is this ‘Unity’ stitched wedge bootie from Restricted:

For some reason, I was on a goth style kick during the holidays. The Christmas season is a strange time to be digging the darker side of things, but the stitched up, sewn together look of these booties really appealed to me (and so did the similarly stitch-detailed Alexander Mcqueen horn heel t-strap pumps).

I love how the stitches circle along the sides of the booties. Even more that the stitches run the entire length of the front and the back of the booties. The double buckled straps only add to its “Frankenstein-held-down-on-a-gurney” look. These details look even more macabre on the brown and black leather version of these booties — you can go to Amazon to check out their fashionably frightful appearance.

This second boot, the ‘Ashbury’, is in the exact same style of the ‘Unity’ but manages to look completely different:

Isn’t it amazing how a bit of patched up style turns this bootie from scary to rustic? The different-colored suede and the zigzag stitches only remind me of a patchwork quilt, completely erasing any likeliness to goth. It is the same style boot though, down to the double buckled straps and the 1 1/2″ platform and the 4 1/2″ wedge heel.

Both boots have got their own appeal but which one calls to you more — the ‘Unity’ or the ‘Ashbury’?

Look what I found among the new arrivals at Heels. These Luichiny True Fit buckled over-the-knee boots which are a dead ringer for Vanessa Hudgens’ Area Forte boots! :

In search of the perfect wedge boot for fall, I stumbled upon the ‘Rachel’ from BCBG Max Azria:

I’ve never been big on pointy toes on boots especially on high-heeled ones, but this one looks like it’s worth a try!

The proportions are all just right; the boot shaft transitions seamlessly into a pointy toe and the toe into a 4″ wedge heel.

Speaking of the wedge heel, it’s covered and embellished with this screwed-on metal plate which I am just absolutely CRAZY about:

Love how the metal plate takes this perfectly proportioned boot right into the crazy zone!

Although there is one minor (or major?) flaw that has got me questioning the design of this boot and that’s the fact that it’s got no opening anywhere whatsoever. Well, there’s the top of the boot of course but other than that, this boot doesn’t have any zippers, buttons or anything of that sort!

Unless this boot has a wide calf or was made specifically for women with skinny calves, I suspect this style is going to be a hard sell.

Good thing then that the online boutiques that carry this boot offer two-way shipping and returns so that way, we can try out the boot’s fit before committing to its purchase.

BCBG Max Azria Vintage Rain Boots

I first saw these BCBG Max Azria Vintage Rain Boots as a tiny thumbnail like how you usually first see things when you’re shopping online.

My initial thoughts were: what are those things on it? Are they some sort of new technology for rain boots? Maybe they’re newly designed hand grabs for when you’re pulling on the boots. Or they could be some sort of traction or grip.

As I clicked on the thumbnail to enlarge it, it turns out, they’re just studs. Nothing but decorative, non-functional pyramid studs that are placed on an impractical stitched-on leather panel.

Take a closer look:

BCBG Max Azria Vintage Rain Boots

I have nothing against studs but this is one of those “great concept, poor execution” ideas. You can treat the leather panels so they become more resistant to water, molds and humidity but that defeats the purpose of this shoe being a rain boot. Also, try working the solution onto the leather panels with all those studs on it. If all BCBG Max Azria wanted was to stud the boot, I don’t see why they couldn’t have just placed them directly onto the boot or used a similar rubber/waterproof material for it.

I guess you can use these boots just for fashion but for $124.99, I think I’d at least want my rain boots to be usable in the rain.

Black Rooster Ariel vs. Dereon Tulip

Just thought it would be fun to have a little contest today. Here are two almost identical looking boots from Black Rooster and Dereon. I have a strong feeling these are knock-off versions of a more luxurious pair, but I’m not exactly sure from which designer brand yet (perhaps you can enlighten me…). The similarities are quite uncanny; even their silhouettes are the same. Take a look:
