The first time I took notice of Demi Lovato’s new style was a few days just before her birthday. These pictures are from her visit to the FOX & Friends studio on August 16th for an interview on the morning show:

At first I thought Demi Lovato was wearing spats in these pictures but she’s wearing actual pump boots with exposed vamps. Or platform pumps with attached hugs. Or high heel boots with cutouts. Actually, I’m not so sure what to call these boots but they’re the Steve Madden A-Jenay:

Demi Lovato was photographed again just a few days later after her Fox & Friends visit and this time, she was wearing a pair of very chic zipper ankle boots with cutouts:

Note how she paired her ankle boots with a studded cuff, more metal bracelets, various chain necklaces and huge hoop earrings to “rough up” her sexy oversized sweater and bandage skirt outfit.

Okay, so she’s wearing nearly the exact same outfit in the last set of pictures, but she changed things up with her choice of boots. I also prefer these cutout boots more because they’re more attention-grabbing than the CO-OP Barney New York ones.

I know Alexander Wang is revered for his mad shoe designing skills, but I can’t help but giggle at how these boots look! The first one is very cartoonish with its fat heel and overly rounded toe, while the second one could’ve been okay if it weren’t for the stuck-on leather sock.

The price tags on these are no laughing matter though: the chunky loafer clown boot is going for $745.00 while the steel toe sneaker boots with the dismembered-looking sock is even more expensive at $925.00.

Don’t get the wrong impression – not all Alexander Wang boots for fall 2010 are as silly. The brand capitalized on the success of their Freja Booties and they decided to go ahead and create a fantastic knee high version of their bestseller:

These would look so striking under a heavy coat. I can’t wait to see who will be the first celebrity to rock these boots for fall.

A year later, just four days ago actually, Sienna Miller was seen wearing her Isabel Marant Otway Studded Booties again:

It’s nice to see that Sienna Miller is getting more use out of those $1,300 booties, but my heart just breaks at the sight of the scuffed and worn down graduated cone heels on her Isabel Marants:

I guess it can’t be helped, especially if you love wearing a pair of boots this much.

It was expected that knockoffs would be made of these highly desired booties, and there were quite a lot especially when the Otway booties sold out everywhere. Still, I didn’t expect that knockoffs of these booties would still prevail and actually remain to be bestsellers up to now, after over a year and after a couple of new Isabel Marant collections have already come out.

Appealing or appalling?

Before you give your final verdict on these boots, here’s something else to think about first: these furry footwear cost a staggering $2,095.00 at NeimanMarcus.com.

Probably not even worth the effort to form an opinion about huh, especially since so few people can actually afford to buy and wear these things out. But if you’re curious to know what it’s like to wear these new Christian Louboutin creations (and hey, I’m not judging), here’s something that’ll give you the look for less – the Jeffrey Campbell Shield fur spats:

Wear them with clogs, booties or your own high-heeled platform boots! These things may look really out there but that’s the whole point of wearing them. To look even more “crazy fierce”, pair them with the Chanel Yeti suits from the Chanel Fall 2010 fashion show. Walk outside and get ready to start blowing people’s minds away – or freaking them out, as the case may be.

These fur spats are from the same family of spats that I featured in a fashion challenge a couple of weeks ago. Except of course these are furrier, warmer and less S&M-looking than the ones from that post.

So are they dating or not? More importantly, does it matter?

It probably does to a lot of people as these two are very high profile, but let me focus first on what matters to us most here on this blog: the cute pair of boots Ashley Greene was seen wearing on August 9:

Ashley Greene’s boots are the Deena & Ozzy Pin Stud Boots. The toes on her pair are a bit scuffed, but you kind of expect them to as these boots are only 20 dollars:

Correction: make that WERE 20 dollars. These non-leather boots are unfortunately now sold out everywhere and they probably sold out fast given their low price and the fact that Ashley Greene was seen wearing them.

Though the 20-dollar price tag is a little hard to beat, I did find a few boots that also have the straps-and-buckles style. Some of these aren’t that much more expensive ($30-40) while some ARE expensive ($80-$100), but at least they’re available and sizes are in stock:

Remember these to-die-for $1,605 Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain Multi Buckle Boots?

Well, these boots have knockoffs – as they’ve always had as soon as they came out – that are currently on sale at SoleStruck.com. They’re worth checking out and writing about here on Boots 4 You because they’re really good copies of the Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain boots.

First, take a look at the Heidi Klum candid pictures that started this whole search:

Very beautiful boots on the very beautiful Heidi, but what really stood out for me were those semi-wedge, cone-shaped heels. Wouldn’t have seen them if it weren’t for the side view shots, so thank god for the paps and their shameless ways.

I knew I had laid eyes on a pair of shoes with those same cone heels before and my hunch led me to the cone-heeled Rosegold Black Suede Halle Studded Cuff Booties which I featured early this year in a 2010 fashion trends in boots post. I know perfectly well that those Rosegold booties are knockoffs of the Isabel Marant Otway Studded Ankle Boots, so given that this is Heidi Klum we’re talking about – a very successful celebrity who probably wouldn’t wear knockoffs because she can afford the real things – I narrowed down my search to the original and way more expensive brand, Isabel Marant.

I was in the right direction. Check out this picture of boots that’s among the top three results when you google “Isabel Marant gray boots”:

I searched the rest of the shoes from the same collection (Isabel Marant Spring-Summer 2010) and I HAD it. Heidi Klum’s boots are the highly coveted, wait-listed, sold out everywhere Isabel Marant Dampa Boots:

Isabel Marant is a notoriously very exclusive brand and though that makes it very hard for us to get a hold of ‘em, that’s exactly what makes Isabel Marant so cool.

There are a few places online where you can find the Isabel Marant Dampa Boots. One of them is of course, eBay. Sizes are very limited but starting bid prices are comparatively low ($800-$900 listing compared to the original retail price of $1,400). The San Francisco store Metier also carries Isabel Marant items and if they keep their blog updated, it looks like they still have one pair of the Isabel Marant Dampa Boots left.

The handful of online boutiques that Isabel Marant has allowed to carry their items include Net-A-Porter.com and MyTheresa.com. Though they don’t have the boots, check back from time to time to see if they have new items from the latest Fall-Winter 2010-2011 collection.

The definition goes on to say that spats were worn especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries particularly by army men who wore them as part of their parade dress and ceremonial uniforms. In more modern times, some characters in “The Flintstones” cartoon were drawn as wearing spats (but still with no shoes) to depict that they were rich and high society.

Now I don’t think these spats depict rich and high society more than it screams “I’m fashionable – look at ME!!!”. But still, somewhere deep inside me, I believe these things could actually look good if only worn with the right clothes and styled the right way.

So here’s another challenge for boot lovers out there, the Jeffrey Campbell Spats:

On a practical and economical point of view, $99.95 for something that can turn your shoes into a dramatic pair of boots is actually not a bad deal. But on the other hand, these spats don’t really go with just any pair of shoes and their tight fit don’t look like they would fit very well over say, a nice pair of ankle boots that would otherwise be great to wear in the winter.

Fashion-wise, I can’t deny that these things would look extremely fierce. I think I would actually try and wear these if I had a pair. But the shoes I’m imagining these spats with don’t look like they would fit; for one thing they’re 4 inches high and second, they’re thick platform wedges:

That’s right, these are new arrivals. Introduced right in the middle of the heat of SUMMER.

Okay, I’ll start with the easy ones first. I can actually see a lot of people wearing the fringe and feather sandals despite the ankle cuff/bootie part being fur lined. No one’s going to see or feel that except the wearer anyway. And even though keeping your ankles warm and the rest of your feet bare doesn’t make any sense, let’s face it, fashion doesn’t always and never does have to make sense. Also, those fringe, bead and feather details are unignoreably cute – very trendy, very boho chic, and great for spicing up an outfit when you’re too lazy and all you want to wear is a tank top and denim shorts.

The one that’s going to be harder to defend is the fur sandal bootie. Okay, fur feels warm, fabulous and just oh-so-touchable, but really? Fur? In the summer? “Showing a bit of fur in the summer” is apparently a new trend Koolaburra is trying to make happen.

Let me end this with a picture of Vanessa Hudgens who was seen wearing the Koolaburra Auroras just very recently. Being that she is one of the foremost young Hollywood style icons today, is this a foreboding of things to come in the near future of fashion? :
